ESCAPE | 2020

EAll photographs of «Escape» series were taken around my home environment during first quarantine months – March-June 2020. Sometimes in the evening my son and I would go for a walk in the forest or to places where we could not meet a single person. We walked in abounded places like dilapidated Ludvig Kron Dacha.  We walked in neighborhood of old Peterhof palaces like Palais Leuchtenberg, which was presented by Tsar Nicholas I to his beloved daughter Mary as a wedding gift, and Belvedere Palace, which was intended for the imperial family picnics. We walked along the coast of the Gulf of Finland and climbed into the forest.

It was our escape from isolation – from the confined space of the apartment to freedom, where there is nothing that would remind us of today, but much reminds us of the past.

The series was created using monocle made by Russian master Vyacheslav Zitev.  I wanted to emphasize the poetic nature of these places as opposed to the brutal coronavirus reality. Hope this succeeded.
